Shayera Thal's apartment is quiet when she's out on the job. There's a pristine quietness about the snow up this high. An apartment like this, there's no doubt she still takes to the skies pretty regularly.

When she finally gets home, though, it may take her a while, but she'll eventually find a little belated Christmas gift on her table.

It's a JLA communicator, with a little bow on it.

And a small note that reads:

Welcome back.

We've kept the fires burning for you.

He has been in Nevada for thirty minutes only. In that time, Batman has obtained two things: one, the location of the firefight from which Jason has called Oracle; two, some shell casings and blood of Jason's type left at the scene. The information is both dismaying and damned irritating in its lack of detail.

Doesn't help that it's 3:25am local time and the city remains lit up like a Christmas tree.

Squatting by one of the casings, Batman thinks long and hard about who knows the city, who knows Jason, who might be able to offer more information. One name comes to mind. He activates the JLA channel. "Batman to Canary."

So it's 5:25 EST. Big deal.

(NB: This scene should occur BEFORE Batman arrives in Vegas.)

They have known each other for a long time, the Bat and the Hawk. Sometimes they've gotten along well, and sometimes...not as well. But with Mr. Terrific's suggestion for an elite team tickling the back of his mind and three hours of transport needed (because he wanted the equipment in the Batwing with him in Las Vegas), Batman has time to contact Carter Hall and have a talk. How that talk will go, he has no idea.

"Batman to Hawkman."

Things had been going better than Corrine had expected. The anger was still there, set lower than in previous days, however. She was enjoying fixing up her family home, tolerating her temporary guest, and spoken with Caleb. Although things were done for the time being it seemed as if there was no mutual hatred hidden there. Burning bridges is something she no longer intends to do.

It's the exact reason she's at the brownstone today, seeking out Terrific. Tucked under her arm is a manila folder-- an explanation of the things she's been hiding. Resolution on paper.

One down, two to go.

The coast of Costa Linda is as well guarded as it can be. That still leaves room for a small Zodiac boat to take a trip in, however.

Ollie's private plane is sitting on a landing strip in the next republic over, and the Queen family is checked into a nearby resort. The Zodiac was waiting for them on the beach, and after a couple of unpleasant hours at sea, they're coming up on the looming shadow that is the old Spanish fortifications.

'Li--our sources say that there should be a small beach nearby here. There might be a couple of guards. If there are, we take 'em out from here and then go in quick.

I'm switching to the fishing motor now. I don't expect any trouble, but just in case...
