Those few that know Bruce Wayne - the real Bruce Wayne, not the one that waves to cameras for photo ops with supermodels, starlets or extremely sexy former jewel thieves - know his proclivity for brooding. He does so less often than people may assume because his work, both business and crimefighting, keeps him busy and distracted, but when he gives himself the time to sink into the shadows that have gathered about him since boyhood, he can sit for hours in a dark room and ruminate on things as dark as people fear he contemplates. His preferred place for this activity has long been the Wayne Manor study, where the ghost of his father seems ever-present.

Detroit

The hot shower in his hotel room makes him almost human. He's been travelling by plane ... keeping away from the JLA transporters. Oh, he's still carrying a signal device, but he's not in th emood to deal with them if he doesn't have to.

And now he's in Detroit, where he flicked on the radio and Aretha Franklin was singing "R-E-S-P-E-C-T." It all seemed kind of appropriate.

The pieces are falling into place: He brought Ryan from China to fill his teaching post and to takeover as the Atom job. A phone call to Joto has him on hand to assist Ryan as he gets his balance. They're both rookies, but Ryan's a genius, and Joto's been around the block a few times.

And the talk with Blue Devil told him how to find Sabastian Faust. Soon, everything will be in place. He'll be able to deal with the Enchantress. Able to help Jean.

Assuming such a thing is possible.
