"Listen...I don't know.  I...I remember some things happening.  Stuff...got out of hand.  Next thing I know, I'm smashed about, Mary's down, and Cap...Nazi's down too.  Do I know why?  No...but I'm not sorry...not in the least."

Freddy Freeman tries to gulp down his cup of water.  The damage from the Fawcett battle had taken a toll on his human form, swelling his face, and throat up.   He winces, wiping his darkening lip before starting again.

"What led to this?  Well...as far as I know..."

Time has passed since Batman's protege visited and exhibited the mindlessly visceral interrogation techniques to be expected from the bottomfeeders that inhabit Gotham City. The cracked skull and bruises have long since mended, but a nagging headache continues to visit him since that day.

Anything that inhibits his ability to think and plot annoys the hell out of him, particularly when it requires sleep, that odious waste of hours, and the headaches are the sort that are best dismissed with rest. On his agenda when he returns to earth is suing the Dark Knight's punk sidekick Nightwing for all he's worth. The brat is probably penniless, but access to some of that Bat technology has some appeal.

The thought of obtaining a utility belt, complete with a chunk of kryptonite suitable for use on the alien, is what lulls Lex to sleep. And the moment that his state of unconsciousness deepens into the delta stages of sleep, something odd happens, something over which he would puzzle.

Something else rouses from its own state of unconsciousness within the recesses of Alexander Luthor's being. But...what?
