He needed something with enough punch to really put a hurt on it - he figures a diving Jack and a flaming log thrown with his own strength should do it. And just to make sure this isn't any fun for Jack either, he makes sure to magnetize the android.
Oh, and while he almost never creates objects, this one is too much to pass on.
