Degaton's soldiers from the future maintain their fire as they are buffeted by Firebrand's flame and Cyclone's torrent, protected by their force shields but clearly on the defense. But already, Johnny Quick seems to have fallen to them.

"I've had ENOUGH OF THIS!" Maxine screams, glaring at whatever enemies are left standing. "Have you?"

The force of her power holds the soldiers at bay ... but they're hardly the most dangerous threat on the field.

Yes says the voice of the seemingly-posessed Kent Nelson. I have had enough.

Seemingly oblivious to the the force of the wind, Doctor Fate moves toward Cyclone, his hands ablaze with mystic light, strands of energy arcing into hawk wings behind him.

Near Vegas

Amazing-Man pilots the airship -- fastest thing they could get their hands on. Gets them from New York to Vegas in a matter of hours. That took some sweet talking to get the government to lend it out, but hey. You save the president enough times, and they're inclined to do you favors.

He glances behind him to the the mixed team -- his fellow All-Stars and the JSAers from the future. He's not entirely sure he believes that, but they seem on the level.

"We're coming up on the coordinates Fate was headed to,"he shouts back at the heroes. "Should send an advance party to investigate?"

They wasted no time getting back to the headquarters ... the revelation that Degaton might be behind their current woes ... The All-Star Squadron found it motivating. None so much as Queen Hippolyta ... The Wonder Woman of the Golden Age ... who found the person she's become closest to in this age in mortal danger.

Except now comes a hero from the future ... Ted Grant, Wildcat. An old man now, but still a mighty warrior. She knew in her heart it was him, but still ... the waters of time were tricky, and she was not inclined to leave anything to chance.

The heroes moved swiftly above the New York rooftops, the citizens of the city staring up in awe at the sight.

It was the beginning of an age of wonders ... and everything still seemed new.

Including the Perisphere ... a stunning monument to the future.

And now, it seems the future has come.

Mr. Terrific was able to draw at least one connection between most of those attacked. The first three -- Nightstar, Lady Quark and Invisible Kid -- were from alternate universes, lost in this world through the quirk of interdimensional travel.

The attacks on Cyclone and Power Girl, he had less answer for, but he was bound and determined to find out. In the meantime, he charged Power Girl to lead a team to track down others known to originate from ... elsewhere.

The list was logner than you'd think. The Legion members were easy to find, and likely self-sufficient. The heroine Harbinger, once the assistant to The Monitor, was living on Themyscria, surrounded by Amazons. Probably safe, for the moment.

But one man, sighted recently in Atlanta, Georgia, assisting STAR Labs with a particle tracking technology, rocketed to the top of Terrific's potential target list ...

Polly was nothing if not well prepared and the measurements for her non-ceremonial armor are almost exactly the same as Donna's. It flattens her chest a bit more than her old armor did. Mom never had to go through the whole morning sickness and expanding cup size thing, however. Still, it was going to have to do and she's stolen a moment alone for "mediation, planning and preparedness."

It's weird that she thinks of mom's name as "Polly," and not Hippolyta. It's one of those quirks between her and Diana. She used to know about Wonder Woman the World War Two fighter. Wildcat and the others in the JSA had stories. Diana grew up with her as queen of this island. Diana introduced her to Polly as "one who follows our example." She had slipped in her nervousness and called her "Queen Polly," which rated a raised eyebrow. Then Donna offered a gift-wrapped box to the queen "from the person who taught me about you." She didn't think either her or Diana were expecting the Peanut M&M's and double salted licorice buttons Ted had back into the wrapped box. Somehow though, Hippolyta - Queen of the Amazons - suddenly became "our girl Polly," and, somehow, a surrogate mother to her with a look and knowing smile.

She wipes the sweat out of her eyes and cleans away more of the armor seeing a wavy sort of reflection there. It could be any of the three of them in a Picasso sort of way. Diana told no one about the "twin," she had created and had thought it was destroyed by Polly's old World War II nemesis - who was still after her - which brought everything back to circle around again. Their mother either hid her shock very well or had accepted something like it long ago. Little wonder she and Hawkman got along.

It's not her only life, but it's been tied into the Titan one. Mary Donna was made possible here. Roy's quest to bring her back from the dead started here. Lian now wears bracelets. Even Kory is now accepted as an Amazon. It fits with who's she's become - at least most of the time. The Senate barred any men from the island, even those who would help. Their ways. Their reasons and they're good ones. Her hand brushes her hair away from her neck and she feels the chain there. Oh, right. That's why it bothers her. She smiles a little at her brother's "reminder."

Fate leaves the Baxter Building and rises into the air. He doesn't know what it is, exactly, but something about this world has been making him edgy -- maybe it's just the proximity to Doom. The man radiates malevolence.

Or maybe it's the world itself -- tensions between humans and so-called "mutants" skyrocket, and a latent distrust of all superhumans percolates beneath the surface of the society. He lands on top of the Baxter Building and looks out at the skyline, pushing his mind to understand this world -- he sees the island nation of Genosha, destroyed by robots called sentinels. Of course, in his own world, cities like Coast City and Montevideo have been eradicated, also. He finds a love of heroes such as the Fantastic Four below him, but that lvoe doesn't translate to all this world's protectors. It frustrates him. The balance between order and chaos is different here. He is the alien, and he's not accustomed to it.

He pushes his mind further, looking for a trace of the missing T'Challa. He finds none, but can see other points where the transit between worlds has been interrupted. He's not sure, but they may all be arriving on the same world. Is someone not letting them back?

It's a puzzle, one of too many, lately. He dislikes this business, and wants it finished he wishes to return...

"Home?" says a woman's voice, behind him. It sounds familiar, but he cannot place it. He spins to see who is speaking to him.
