There is some debate within mystical circles if there is indeed such a creature as the embodiment of Christmas Giving known as Santa Claus. But whether or not there is such a being, the spirit of giving itself is very real, be it incarnated in a fat man in a red suit or not.

Throughout this small blue planet of Earth, people have brought trees into their homes, decorated them with lights and ornaments, and placed them in locations of honor. Stockings have been placed on the chimneys. But most of all -- in the spirit of community and giving -- people have placed gifts under the tree.

Some are looking forward more to the receiving than the giving. But for many, it is the act of giving which warms them, which fills them with the holiday spirit.

Each person, in their own way, becomes a part of this spirit of giving. Each person, in their own way, becomes Santa Claus.

Several large crates are sent to the house of Pieter Cross. The delivery truck driver looks puzzled as he hands over a large envelope. "Guess it's in Braille?" he suggests, waiting patiently as per his instructions.

It is not in Braille, but the driver can't see it:

Dear Pieter,

I promised you I'd help at Christmastime. I'm helping out on the East Coast, too, but people're hungry all over, right?

This is about the fifteenth time I've tried writing this, and they've all hit the wastebasket, especially the one where I tried doing it in poetry, because limericks aren't very Christmas-y. I'm running out of stationery, so I'll just stick to something simple.

You're a wonderful man, and no matter what happens next, you'll always have a very special place in my heart.

Merry Christmas. Dinah.

Two large boxes are sent to the home of Dinah Lance. Upon opening them, she'll find two motorcycle helmets - both of similar design, both sporting her Black Canary logo, but in different color schemes in order to go with both her yellow and her black cycles.

Dear Dinah,

I believe you should find that these will allay all your concerns about wearing helmets when you ride. I've designed them to enhance your peripheral vision, minimize any hearing loss and to be lightweight and aerodynamic while remaining a helpful weapon in a fight.

Your gift helped us feed an entire neighborhood, and is proof positive that you should not be thinking less of yourself after the nightmare we lived through.

You are a hero and an inspiration, and I am proud to have had the chance to love you.

Merry Christmas,
Pieter
