Meeting

Things had been quiet, of course that was usually what happened just before everything decided to get out of control in Tefe's experience. There had been time to grow the plants on the base the way she wanted them, some were just for looks, some were for traps, some were to talk to.

She still wondered what that strange Raven woman had wanted outside the theater that day, the other people showing up had scared her away before they could really talk. Maybe she should look her up soon.

Now Caleb wanted her to come to a meeting. Tefe wasn't exactly sure what it was for but she was able to guess it had something to do with Corrine. He hadn't been around too much to ask how his sister was doing because he'd been trying to find a solution to where Corrine had gone. Hopefully she could ask about Amelia at the same time.

She showed up where Caleb had asked her to be with her hands in her pockets and a slightly curious look.

"I'm here."

Caleb stands before Dr. Fate, one hand in his pocket, the other holding a cup of coffee.

“Tefe,” he greets her. “It’s good to see you again. I, uh … I trust you’re familiar with Dr. Fate?”

"She has been through some changes, Tefe Holland," says Fate, nodding to her. "But she is well."

Sanderson Hawkins had reached him at the tower, asking for his help. He would not refuse a fellow JSA member if it was in his power, whatever team membership he holds at the moment.

Besides, this alignment of heroes interested him. And he and Corrine were, after all, connected.

He has a taste of his coffee. Still warm.

“Splendid. Tefe, Dr. Fate and I were just wondering… When you were on the ley lines last, did your connection to the red still function? Did all the ambient magic interfere in any way with your senses?”

Sand observes. He was grateful to Hector for his help.

He had summoned the entire active team to be around for this, in case something happened...for good or ill. It was good to have the team together - especially to have Detective Chimp back on the team.

He also, through Tara, asked for Ibn Head to be present as well. Since he was now involved, he deserved to see it through to the end.

Caleb nods to her before returning his attention to Fate. He doesn't mean to be so rude, but Caleb's mind is running through Dr. Fate's proposal, rolling it over in his mind with his typical focus.

"At least ectoplasmic interfeirence isn't something we'll have to contend with," he observes with releif. "By the same token, though, I, uh ... I do have one outstanding reservation. The last time Ms. Holland was exposed to the leylines, (http://community.livejournal.com/jla_watchtower/1111242.html) she experienced ... complications. Our after-action report characterised it as an accentuation of her demonic aspects, fueled by her seperation from the Earthly relm."

He has another sip of his coffee while his eyes look over Tefe. "If you were to return to the ley-lines, would you be able to resist the call of that place while simultaneously immersing yourself in it? I'm not willing to retreive Corrine only to have you take her place."

"And I will be there to steady you," says Fate, flatly. "Moving between the far realms bears fewer difficulties for me."

“I think cockroaches would be more helpful than Constantine,” Caleb mutters between sips.

“Well then. Tefe, my colleague here was suggesting that he might be able to extend your senses over the full length and width of the ley lines, allowing your connection to the red to help you locate Corrine. It is, of course, more easily said than done, but in theory it’s a sound plan.”

He turns back to Sand. “I’ll endorse an attempt.”

"For safety sake," says Fate, "I'd like to tether Tefe Holland's spirit to an anchor here in this world. Someone with whom she shares blood, of course, would resonate best. Perhaps Gemma could be convinced to serve in that capacity?"

Fate nods, but says nothing. He is quite familiar with Tefe's convoluted history.

Instead, he turns his piercing, eyeless gaze on each assembled in turn, as if evaluating them. But what opinions he's forming remain unspoken.

The scrutiny does not go unnoticed. "Penny for your thoughts?"

[identity profile] doctorfatejsa.livejournal.com 2007-09-11 06:41 pm (UTC)(link)
"I am simply evaluating, Caleb Zukov," he says. "We are mixing volatile magics and crossing complex destinies. I simply wish to be prepared for all that may occur."

"That's why we're here, Hector." Hank chimes in. "We can be your backup on here, in case something goes south and decides to backlash." He pauses. "Still wish I...we could go along. I'm with Caleb on the not looking for a tradeoff here."

It may not be obvious to everyone in the room...but Tefe' can surely read Hank's concern.

"There will not be, Henry King," says Fate ... and if his tone sounds slightly more familiar, slightly more human when he addresses Brainwave then, well, surely that was just imagination, right?

"I have informed Gemma of our intentions," he says, to everyone. "We may leave when you are ready."

[identity profile] sand-hawkins.livejournal.com 2007-09-11 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Sand walks over to Tefe, and gently rests a hand on her shoulder. "Be safe. Bring all of you home safely. And thank you for doing this."

She appears in a quiet teleport not long after Hector contacted her with what they needed. For a lot of reasons obvious to her she's the best option for anchoring Tefe right now.

"Hi everyone." She gives a bright smile, she's met some of them at the JSA headquarters and some she kind of knows from her recent adventure...although Gemma isn't willing to be they are what she remembers from an alternate timeline.

She puts an arm around Tefe's shoulders and leans her head against her cousin's. Physical proximity to activate the blood tie.

"You take good care of my teacher out there okay?"

[identity profile] doctorfatejsa.livejournal.com 2007-09-12 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Fate gives Gemma a nod of acknowledgement as he approaches Tefe.

"Then we should be off," he says. "Tefe Holland ... reach to the ley lines with your mind your mind. I shall steady and guide you."

Fate extends his hands, and light arcs from his upturned palms, cascading into the shape of an ankh.

"Extend your senses to seek out Corrine Bertrand."

And in a flash of golden light, they're gone.
