Assault on the Rock : Order from Disorder

The heroes of Earth had the temerity to assault him directly - that was not unexpected. That they had carefully planned to stall his mind-controlled minions, the Legion of Super-Heroes, was certainly not surprising.

That they had managed to rescue Saturn Girl and free the Legionnaires from his control was another matter entirely.

Now the elder Mordru stands near his younger counterpart, flanking a glowing orb of raw time, and rages against those arrayed against him.

"NO! This should not be happening - this was not the way it was foreseen!" Anger and desperation tinges his voice. "We'll kill you all!"

Brainiac Five stands near the raging titanic form of Mordru, calmly directing the battle from inside his force field, with the able assistance of Oracle and the other team leaders.

"Actually, this is precisely how it was foreseen. We simply arranged to trick you. For all your power, you're simply not smart enough to pull this off."

He nods, and opens a communications channel to all the gathered heroes.

"All forces, concentrate your efforts on the elder Mordru - force him back into the sphere of temporal energy."

The lasso is unwoven from the younger's hands, and Diana flies up to then wrap it around the elder's wrists, tying them tightly together in hopes of forestalling more magic.

This is followed by Diana flying at top speed, feet first, into his chest to push him towards the sphere.

Donna nodded to Brainiac Five and then flew after Diana in full force into Mordru. "You have a lot to answer for," she said as she aimed a kick.

John builds an emerald crowbar to pummel the old bastard in the backs of his knees, so the Wonder Women might be able to push him back a little easier.

Hal joins in with an emerald bulldozer, pouring on the pressure.

The elder Mordru staggers back, teetering on the brink of destruction, desperately trying to maintain his balance.

"No.. NO!"

The Flash creates a whirling gust of wind to sweep the big creep off his feet and backwards...

And Diana is continuing her efforts -- focusing on hits that will take advantage of his precarious balance.

A punch to the chin, a kick to the chest, and eventually barreling in, shoulder down, just pushing him with all of her strength towards the orb.

The first of the newly freed Legionnaires arrives to battle Mordru - M'onel flies straight into the sorcerer like a living bullet, battering him with incredible force.

The combined assault is simply too much - the elder Mordru staggers back into the sphere of raw time energy - and he screams as he is sucked into the timestream, his corporeal form frozen and motionless as it fades away.

There's a burst of mystical energy that accompanies his defeat - some of the raw power of Shazam that he had been hoarding is released. The time-sphere dissipates almost immediately.

"One down. Precisely as in Sand's visions. Refocus our efforts on the other one."

Brainy's fingers dance over the keys on his omnicom, inputting and analyzing data, just to make sure they're doing things precisely as planned..

"You won't find me as easy as that feeble old man. He was just a shadow of my power - and now I don't have to share the power with him. I can still win."

Mordru smiles, staring down the army of superheroes that face him. With Zatanna and Dr. Fate and the Stranger, raw magical force isn't the likeliest route to success - but he may be able to outclass them physically.

"SHAZAM!"

A bolt of lightning arcs from the trapped form of Billy Batson, flowing towards Mordru.

The Stranger is positioned near the path of the lightning bolt, and anticipates Mordru's vocalization, putting the latter half of the plan into motion.

"Now, Dr. Choi.."

He gestures, almost as if casting a spell, but it isn't some magical energy bolt which appears..

The tiny red and blue form of the Atom becomes rapidly visible - and he's carrying two tiny people with him, directly into the path of the bolt.

The bolt is intercepted - never reaching its intended target. Instead, the power of Shazam flows into the bodies of two of its rightful users.

Mary Marvel wastes no time - she knows her part in this plan - she flies at the stone that surrounds Billy, shattering it to free him.

And Captain Marvel Junior flies with the speed of Mercury, towards the nearby cave, so as to take Teth-Adam off the hands of the rescue team, and bring him back towards the fray.

"Captain Marvel!"

With Billy free, the lightning responds to Freddy's call, but rather than let the bolt revert him to his human form, he moves, placing Teth-Adam in its path.

The lightning of Shazam strikes once again - and Black Adam is restored. The spell that prevented him from speaking is broken by the power of the gods that flows in his body.

"Mordru."

With the swiftness of Heru, Black Adam joins the fray, starting with a savage series of punches at the bewildered chaos sorcerer.

Compared to the power on the field, Flamebird knows that she can't punch this guy in the face. She makes do with throwing bolos when she gets a shot as well as bird-a-rangs. There aren't a lot of good clear shots but when she gets them, she takes them.

Flash isn't sure what the hell just happened, much less why shouting "Captain Marvel" didn't turn Tethy into Junior... but he's not going to try to understand magic right now.

Distance has little meaning when it comes to the kinds of psychic power being exerted in this exchange. From her presence amidst the other team, Omen is no longer required to mask her teammates' positions, and can go on the offensive. She reaches out upon the mental landscape Mordru inhabits, and rends it asunder with the full force of her power -- effectively holding up a mirror to his own toxic thoughts and turning it back on him in an endless loop of hatred and bile.

John Stewart doesn't take quite so nuanced an approach.

He can't remember how they got here, and he's not at all aware of what exactly is going on beyond 'fight bad guys,' but he has the very real sense that he's lost something... or rather, it's been taken away from him. A piece of himself, stolen.

It makes him angry enough to take a page out of the Guy Gardner playbook. He builds a jackhammer and slams it directly and repeatedly into Mordru's crotch.

Mordru's mystic shields are rapidly crumbling away under the continuing onslaught - the power rapidly ebbing from him now that Billy has been freed. His eyes are wild as he surveys the forces arrayed against him, looking for escape.

No escape can be found, as Andromeda leads the second wave - the Legionnaires and those who had battled them - to surround Mordru. She pours on her heat vision, threatening to cook him where he stands.

"By all the gods, be gone!" Diana focuses her attacks, pouring all of her strength into blows directed into destroying his shields and bringing him to his knees.

Her anger burns away the confusion, to focus on one thing -- destroying this wizard, whomever he might be. Nothing else.

Dr. Fate gestures, causing the very stone of the Rock Eternity to bend and warp - swirling up around Mordru's ankles, it begins to entomb the rapidly weakening sorcerer.

"Be gone, and trouble us no more. Sleep a tortured, dreamless sleep buried inside the Rock as you should have, thing of Chaos."

Pure white radiance begins to flow from young Billy Batson, the nebulous cloud of energy taking on a humanoid form that will be familiar to many.

"The power of Shazam is now free of Mordru's evil infection. I am, again, whole."

Shazam, Lord of Order, joins his powers with those of Nabu's champion - Mordru's final scream of rage is overwhelmed by the rumble of stone as the Rock of Eternity reclaims its prisoner.
