The Rock of Eternity

In the aftermath of Mordru's assault on time, the mystic community has gathered to assess the damage. The restored wizard Shazam has taken up his throne once more, sitting in vigil over the Seven Deadly Sins.

"Your service was admirable, Billy. Your custodianship of my power allowed my the time necessary to prepare for the critical moment. And Teth-Adam, you have discharged your duties with great skill and courage - I hope you will continue to serve as one of my champions. Though the threat of Mordru has passed, the world will always face new dangers."

He turns to some of the other gathered guests.

"And there is the matter of the Spectre to consider. I had hoped he would not become involved - but I was unable to foresee everything."

"The spirit of wrath endures. I cannot be certain if its link to the soul of Ra's al-Ghul still remains - Mordru's spells were quite potent."

"I'm just glad things are back to normal for now. I don't think I'm quite ready to take on your mantle just yet - I would like to finish school, first."

Billy grins - though the recent experience was rough, his spirits have been lifted at the relief of his burden.

His ordeal was less painful than Billy's - but Teth-Adam was never one to enjoy frustration and powerlessness.

"Yeah. We'd hate for them to get a few more minutes of peace, after all."

There should probably be a 'no smoking' sign in the Rock of Eternity, for the little good it would do. You don't invite a Constantine and just expect them to follow your rules. Or even put on a polite face, really.

"So, this is where the magic happens. Must confess, never expected to see it in person."

"You're lucky you're here, Constantine. I don't think you'll enjoy your next chat with Gemma."

Hector, for his part, has cooled off about the whole thing considerably - after a few words of assurance from the Stranger.

"I'll be working to stabilize things.. Morgaine le Fey has suddenly become active again, probably sensing opportunity.."

"You seem to forget, Hector. Gemma's MY niece. Think this is the first time I've pulled a stunt like this?"

Granted, no other situation was ever like this one, but still.

"She's used to it. She'll yell a lot, threaten a bit, probably slap me, but then she'll storm off and I'll go back to the pub for the night."

"Constantine, your self-interest is one of the great constants of the universe. You are, in your own way, as reliable as the Lords of Order."

The Stranger may be actually smiling. It's hard to tell.

"And yet I still get invites to social functions like this. I clearly haven't tried hard enough."

He takes a long drag from his cigarette and blows the smoke out, not at anyone in particular. A grand-scale gesture of 'why am I here?'.

"We appreciate your timely reversal of the containment spell, John Constantine. None, moreso than Dr. Fate, I suspect."

The wizard smiles.

"Much is in disarray. All of you here will be vital to repairing that which has been torn."

"Indeed. We have walked on the precipice of disaster. Now it is time to stride in the opposite direction."

"Shit needs fixin'. That's all you have to say. Or even better, just start telling us what to do so I can say no and go back home."

Connie rolls his eyes. He's never understood the mystic need to talk with a flourish. He doesn't even use the Queen's English when he makes his spells.

"We know better than to give you orders, Constantine. Whatever role you will have, I'm sure it only depends on you being yourself."

Hector may just be smiling under that helmet.

"For now, I think we're done here. The Stranger has taken care of a lot of the little magical oddities that have arisen. We need to keep our eyes open for signs of the Spectre. That's our foremost concern. If anyone hears or sees anything - let me know."
