There are a number of islands marked "uninhabited" in the Pacific Ocean. Some of these islands are the merest specks, heaps of rocks that some year may vanish forever beneath the pounding of the waves. Others are home to species never seen by humans, flora and fauna that live, thrive, and die without knowing anything beyond the few square miles they call home.
Other islands are only labeled "uninhabited" because their residents have taken great pains to make sure that their privacy remains inviolate.
Unfortunately, one such island is about to have company.

Date: 2005-11-21 07:48 pm (UTC)Dr. Mid-Nite is at the helm, carrying anyone who needed carrying from the San Francisco rendezvous point.
His jaw is set tightly as his deft hands maneuver over the controls.
Trying not to think about how long Dinah's been here.

The Aerie One abseils down from thirty thousand feet, settling into a cruising speed off the Eagle's starboard wing. The comms crackle to life.
"This is Citation six-three-zero Charlie x-ray, come in Big Bird, over."

Date: 2005-11-21 09:59 pm (UTC)Neodymium lasers online, reads a display back at the drone control station on the island.
And yellow beams fire at the Green Lantern.

Date: 2005-11-21 10:03 pm (UTC)But Light wouldn't expect this.
He thinks about Dinah in trouble. A good friend, in serious danger. He feels fear -- and he pushes past it.
His shields reflect the yellow light, and Hal's ring blasts back at the drones.

Date: 2005-11-21 10:06 pm (UTC)High in the sky about the island, the drone evades the Green Lantern's blasts and renews the barrage of golden light.

Date: 2005-11-22 02:37 am (UTC)He took stock. His minions were ready and scattered. The anti-teleport mechanisms were in place, with only Light himself knowing the failsafe.
He was as ready as it got.
"I had hoped to save that surprise for later, but yes, it's important to take some out of the game, at least. You're in charge of island tacticals and of the anti-Marvel weapon. If that should fail, use procedures and get out of here...if nothing else, one of us has to be on the outside."

Date: 2005-11-22 02:39 am (UTC)And with that, Sivana flipped over a com unit. "It's time, my dear. There are two transport vehicles over the island. Pick one and destroy it."

Date: 2005-11-22 02:53 am (UTC)However, it's hard to compensate for the speed of Mercury.
Faster than most anything has a right to fly, a streak of white shoots straight up from the island and, choosing the Eagle as its first target, hits the bottom of the aircraft at top speed, with the strength of Hercules coming full bore.

"Mary! What are you doing?!!"
Marvel dives from high above and pushes Mary from the plane with all his strength. He catches the vehicle's ruptured stucture keeping it aloft. With his best speed he tries to get the Iron Eagle to the island's beach.

Date: 2005-11-22 08:51 am (UTC)But the quickness of the movements pretty much forces anyone in the Eagle to be pinned to their seats.
"Was that Mary Marvel?" he has to ask over the comlink to the Captain.
