January 1st, 1943, Gotham City...
Last night it was cheers and clinking glasses in the Gotham night. Many feel -- and only history will prove them right or wrong -- that the war is winding down, and some newspapers are predicting Hitler will fall in a matter of months, maybe even weeks.
That might be wishful thinking, though. For even as Hitler grows more desperate, power-mad and paranoid, he and his allies have hatched a plan to strike at America's greatest heroes, The All-Star-Squadron.
But it doesn't start with them...

It's everything he can do to hold on, to not black out. But the blow that hits him in the back is staggering, and he spirals downward to the Gotham alleys. He lands with a crash, barely strong enough to wipe the blood from his face to look up at his assailant.
"Can't ... believe ... you had the guts ... to land on ... U.S. soil. Ratzi."

"And you call yourselves the master race," comes a woman's voice.

But he looks angry
"And who are you, fraulein, to interfere in this business? You'd best leave now, before you share his fate."

"Canary?" he says, a hand on her to help her stay on her feet.

And he's gone, taking the fallen hero with him for emergency help.
Certainly the hospital could help him, but there are two men with the medical skills to help who remain among the Flash's most trusted companions.
Mr. Terrific, and Doctor Mid-Nite.

The Black Canary looks up at the buildings affected by Captain Nazi's shockwave. Some of the windows are boarded up. She hopes that means they're abandoned, and not just observing blackout conditions 'round the clock.
She should check to see if anyone's inside. But she's doing good to stay on her feet.

"Flash," he says, looking up from his newspaper. "What's .... Wait. Isn't that the mystery man from Fawcett?"

He has to trust that the medical skills he displays in tending to the injuries of his patient cannot be linked to his secret identity, one Dr. Charles McNider!

His voice trails off as they get his unifrom off and begin treating his wounds.
"...wow. He's lucky to be alive."

"The blunt force trauma necessary to make these wounds is staggering..."

And with that, the Flash is gone, checking to make certain that the abandoned buildings are truly abandoned.
A moment later, he returns with a rather startled-looking cat and a litter of kittens in his arms. "It's all secure," he tells her with a smile. "What happened here?"
