January 1st, 1943, Gotham City...

Last night it was cheers and clinking glasses in the Gotham night. Many feel -- and only history will prove them right or wrong -- that the war is winding down, and some newspapers are predicting Hitler will fall in a matter of months, maybe even weeks.

That might be wishful thinking, though. For even as Hitler grows more desperate, power-mad and paranoid, he and his allies have hatched a plan to strike at America's greatest heroes, The All-Star-Squadron.

But it doesn't start with them...

"Big talk, American," says the caustic shadow that descends from the sky above him. "For a man lying bleeding in a strange alleyway. Soon, you will be another anonymous corpse, and there will be no one to stand against mein fuhrer's plans. There is no one to save you."

"Funny," he says, with an evil smirk. "I don't see them here now.

It's hard to say which comes first, the voice or the strike. It's a solid kick aimed at the back of Captain Nazi's knee.

"And you call yourselves the master race," comes a woman's voice.

Hitting Capt. Nazi is like hitting a brick wall, but even he has pressure points. He doesn't fall, or cry out, but he stumbles, and turns to look at his assailant, keeping him from delivering a death blow to the battered Bulletman.

But he looks angry

"And who are you, fraulein, to interfere in this business? You'd best leave now, before you share his fate."

"The name's Black Canary, Fritz. Be a good kraut and go back to kissing Hitler's backside."

There's a blur of red and blue, and the Flash is there with them.

"Canary?" he says, a hand on her to help her stay on her feet.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_black_canary_/ 2006-03-03 12:14 pm (UTC)(link)
She looks up, grateful for the supporting hand. "Yes. Flash. Thanks. We need to get him to a doctor quickly."

He takes Bulletman in his arms. "I'll be right back."

And he's gone, taking the fallen hero with him for emergency help.

Certainly the hospital could help him, but there are two men with the medical skills to help who remain among the Flash's most trusted companions.

Mr. Terrific, and Doctor Mid-Nite.

Yowsa.

The Black Canary looks up at the buildings affected by Captain Nazi's shockwave. Some of the windows are boarded up. She hopes that means they're abandoned, and not just observing blackout conditions 'round the clock.

She should check to see if anyone's inside. But she's doing good to stay on her feet.

Terry Sloane notices the movement in the air before Flash actually appears inside the JSA Brownstone.

"Flash," he says, looking up from his newspaper. "What's .... Wait. Isn't that the mystery man from Fawcett?"

[identity profile] jay-garrick.livejournal.com 2006-03-03 12:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"He needs help. I'll be right back," Flash says simply, gently putting the injured hero down on the table, and then disappearing once more.

[identity profile] jsaboss.livejournal.com 2006-03-03 12:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Terry gets straight to work, hitting the All-Star Squadron alarm and prepping Bulletman for surgery.

[identity profile] midnite-md.livejournal.com 2006-03-03 12:29 pm (UTC)(link)
"I suppose our job here is evident, Mr. Terrific!" Doctor Mid-Nite declares, before racing to his medical tools and preparing to mend the fallen comrade-in-arms.

[identity profile] jsaboss.livejournal.com 2006-03-03 12:31 pm (UTC)(link)
"Indeed, docotr," says Terry chipperly. "I count at least four broken ribs and I fear there's some internal bleeding."

[identity profile] midnite-md.livejournal.com 2006-03-03 12:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"Never fear. Bulletman may be in pain, but he's been brought to the right place!"

He has to trust that the medical skills he displays in tending to the injuries of his patient cannot be linked to his secret identity, one Dr. Charles McNider!

[identity profile] jsaboss.livejournal.com 2006-03-03 01:01 pm (UTC)(link)
"He has indeed," says Terry, admiring his colleauge's skill. "Your skill with the scapel is amazing ..."

His voice trails off as they get his unifrom off and begin treating his wounds.

"...wow. He's lucky to be alive."

[identity profile] midnite-md.livejournal.com 2006-03-03 01:30 pm (UTC)(link)
"You aren't kidding," he says, quietly, after the damage is revealed.

"The blunt force trauma necessary to make these wounds is staggering..."

"I think I might've cracked a boot heel," the Canary mutters to herself, checking her left boot. "What is that guy made of?"

[identity profile] jay-garrick.livejournal.com 2006-03-03 12:27 pm (UTC)(link)
And the Flash is back. "Are you alright, Miss Canary?" Again, he's politely offering an arm for her to lean on.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_black_canary_/ 2006-03-03 12:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm fine," she says, shaking her foot before experimentally putting her weight back on it. "These buildings--is there anyone in them?"

[identity profile] jay-garrick.livejournal.com 2006-03-03 12:43 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'll doublecheck," he tells her. "Excuse me a moment, miss."

And with that, the Flash is gone, checking to make certain that the abandoned buildings are truly abandoned.

A moment later, he returns with a rather startled-looking cat and a litter of kittens in his arms. "It's all secure," he tells her with a smile. "What happened here?"

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_black_canary_/ 2006-03-03 12:48 pm (UTC)(link)
She gestures up at the sky. "Captain Goose-stepper was throwing Bulletman around like he was Jack Dempsey fighting Jack Benny."

[identity profile] jay-garrick.livejournal.com 2006-03-03 12:58 pm (UTC)(link)
"Captain Nazi? Here?" He frowns, looking up at the sky. "We'd better warn the Justice Society." He offers his arms. "Do you mind if I carry you, Miss?"
