Phone Calls and the Red

Katar has flown the coop, possessed by the Red.

Tefe is looking for him, phasing through the Green. Hawkwoman is flying after him.

And the Chimp has his cell phone, and he's dialing Dr. Fate while he moves to the kitchen, to see if Thanagarians keep anything to drink around here.

"Shay ... No. Detective Chimp.What can I do for you?"

Caller ID registered before the mystic senses. Go figure.

"Say you've got someone possessed by a Hawk avatar from the Red. Say this avatar is violent and tends to possess this person during really unfortunate times. Say this avatar doesn't want to un-possess the guy, so you've gotta send both Shay and Tefe Holland out to find them. Once they find him... what do you do to get rid of say avatar?"

A long moment of silence.

"You'd probably need to consider an exorcism. Which are extremely ... unpleasant ... things. You'd also need to consider whether separation from the Hawk Avatar would kill the Thanagarian Hawkman. That is whom we're talking about, correct?"

"That's the guy. Did your dad fill you in on the details? You know, that he's back to life and all?"

"I've heard. Had my hands a bit full lately. I take it the avatar's now out of control?"

"Something like that. No way I can persuade it out, can I?"

"I am inclined to doubt, Detective Chimp" says Fate, appearing by the chimp's side. "It is possible the spirit's rages can be assuaged, but the path is unclear."

The chimp nods thoughtfully. "What about being threatened out? What if we trigger the 'flight' response in 'fight or flight'?"

Fate looks down at the chimp for an uncomfortably long pause.

"And what, exactly, do you imagine it would be afraid of?"

While the chimp makes his phone call, Shayera has someone to contact herself.

She doubts Kendra's going to be thrilled that the guy who impaled her the last time he lost control has lost control again and is on the loose, but the girl deserves to know. Better to deal with the anger now than wait and have her be mad at Shay for not giving her a heads up.

"Come on, Hawkgirl, pick up your damn communicator."

"Shay? What's up?"

She's tired. She was up all night patrolling St. Roch, and got into a bit of a tussle with a couple of would-be thieves trying to break into a liquor store.

"Katar," Shay says bluntly. "The Hawk's in control and he's on the move. Thought you'd want to know."

There's a long silence.

A VERY long silence.

"...Thanks. I'll be ready this time."

"As far as I know, he hasn't left Chicago. Tefe Holland is tracking him... somehow, but stay on guard anyway. I'll let you know when we find him."

A pause.

"No."

Boy, sure are a lot of meaningful pauses in this conversation, huh?

"Should I tell him? Or not?"

Looking a lot more like the swamp thing than a human right now her body is sitting in the apartment basically unresponsive to anything going on around her.

Her other self is travelling the Green following the trail. It's harder here, there's little actual Green in a city.

It is a difficult trail to follow. The beacon through the Red that this avatar represents does shine brightly, but the lack of Green does hamper travel.

There have been brushes with it, however. The downtown area.

Plants on office desks grant glimpses of the Hawkman soaring upwards near skyscrapers.

It's slow going and she's tempted to stop and make a body and follow on foot but he can fly and she can't, if she can get an idea of where he's going or if he's going to stop she'll reform a body from what she can find.

Otherwise she's going to stay far behind.

There's a flash of an image - a winged speck, disappearing into the clouds, heading to the top of the Sears Tower.

you can't really grit your teeth together in the Green but you can pretend. Sears tower.

She'll pulls the materials she needs from the alleys to make a body and leaves the green behind. One bemused homeless person later she has a long coat to cover herself with.

Hopefully he's still there by the time she makes her way to the top.

The clouds always tend to obscure the view of the top of the tower...

But the beacon on the side of the Red is pretty bright that he's perched at the top.

Well ok, some people look at her funny in her knee length coat and bare feet but no one actually tries to stop her.

Several elevators and a staircase later she's found the roof.

A well guarded roof, seeing as how this was the tallest building on Earth until recently... but someone as resourceful as Tefe should be able to find her way up.

A massive set of spires is on the roof, and he's perched solidly atop the tallest.

Muttering barely above the sound of the raging winds at this height.
