The Hermes Ballroom is packed with congoers, some in street clothes, but most in spandex, silk, leather, or the more humble cotton, plastic, and vinyl, in a riot of colors. There are Supermen, Wonder Women, Wonder Girls, Superboys, but the predominant colors are red and yellow, for Flash and Kid Flash.

He'd helped Booster rebuild that battlesuit of his, so it was an easy feat to construct a replica that was perfect in every detail - minus most of the technological innards, of course.

Following a brief internal debate in his hotel room about the complete and utter lack of dignity involved with this, Ted decided to go forth.

Ted wanders down to the costume contest, in full Booster regalia.

"Of course, it'd be funnier if Booster were here in a Beetle costume, but.."

He hears a chuckle behind him, then a click and a flash of light.

"Oh, I'd recognize that laugh anywhere."

He turns, and flashes his best imitation of Booster's grin. "Care for an autograph, ma'am?"

She flutters her lashes at him and simpers. "Oooh, really? I'd love one!" The facade doesn't last for long, and she laughs. "How're you doing, Ted?"

"Not too shabby. I was running a little low on 'irony', though, so I decided to make an appearance here as Booster's number-one fan. What a scene, huh?"

"Madhouse. Though more entertaining than some I can think of."

"You bring the whole family out? Anyone else undercover I should keep an eye out for?"

"Not the whole family." She plays with her wedding band. "My stepdaughter's here, as one of the Titans. She's proving to be very popular," she adds with a wry grin and a jerk of her head. On the other side of the room, Nightstar is surrounded by fans of both genders, all admiring her costume. Or so Babs tells herself.

"I mean to the convention - Dick's not here?"

He glances towards Nightstar - yowza. There're a couple of slow blinks. "I'll never get used to that.."

He chuckles. "Stealthy as ever - I wonder where you picked up that."

Ted smiles. Always nice to see a happy family. In a low tone : "I bet you half the League's here.."

In his arms, Mary reaches out an arm towards Ted, teething ring in hand.

"A-BAH!"

Dick grins conspiratorially.

Don't know what you're talking about. How's it going, Ted?

He waggles a finger at Mary's nose, playfully. "Hey there, cutie."

"Not too bad - I've been in a great mood for the last month or so, I'm sure Babs mentioned what I've been working on.."

Mary goes almost cross-eyed trying to focus on the finger as Dick nods.

Ted gives her nose a light touch, accompanied by a soft 'meep' noise.

"Oh, yes. Just last week - very brief, straightforward. But it worked wonderfully."

Mary looks surprised, fists coming up to rub at her face at the touch, as though it tickled. Then she refocuses on Ted, and gives him a gummy grin. Dick grins at her, ruffling her dark hair with his free hand.

Goofy kid. You like Uncle Ted, huh?

"It'll be good to be back in action. Give me something to look forward to.."

He chuckles. "She's not old enough to figure out that I'm uncool yet."

"Hey, who says you're uncool?" demands Babs with a wicked grin. "Point me at 'em. I'll roll over their toes."

"That's a lot of toes, you'd be busy for a while. Seriously, I have no illusions that the Blue Beetle is as popular a hero as, say, Superman."

"Or Aquaman."

A little boy wanders by and stares worshipfully up at the costumed Ted. "Wow, it's the Green Lantern!"

A mischievous grin spreads across his features, which he then conceals as he looks down at the boy.

"That's right! But don't tell anybody, okay?"

The little boy shakes his head solemnly. "I promise!" He then hugs Ted's leg. "I love you, Green Lantern!"

He chuckles and kneels down, ruffling the kid's hair. "Remember, study science in school. Being a superhero takes a lot of special equipment."

Might as well work in a positive message.
