Ivy Town PD contacts the Justice League

Detective Cole Branden has seen some weird things in his day -- aliens, supervillains, the laws of physics bent beyond the telling. But nothing he's done has made him as nervous as this.

It took almost an hour to get a direct line. The Feds don't like to tell local authorities how to get ahold of the men on the moon. But eventually, they caved. It would have been easier if he could just have told them what was up, but he couldn't ... not yet. He owed the man that much.

"Hell," he says under his breath as the number dials. "I owe the man way more than that."

He takes a sip of his coffee, and dials the number.

Idly, he wonders how much it costs to call the moon.

"Well, there's the way we found the body, of course. There was some sort of disturbance in the living room, but frankly, it looks less like a fight and more like someone broke down and started breaking things. We've yet to find a sign of someone else being present. And then there's what went down with his ex-wife. Word around the department is he's not been himself since. Even appointed his own succesor at the university. You know there's been a new Atom kicking around, right?"

"Meaning no disrespect to you or your men, detective. You understand that. But the League has some very clever enemies."

She walks closer to Branden, not really looking at anything as she thinks, then glances back to Ray's body.

"Anyone find a note?"

"We understand that, ma'am," he says, measuring his words very carefully. "Which is why we're giving you folks first shot at this. We know what it's like when a fellow officer goes down."

He shakes his head.

"And no, ma'am. We've not yet found a note."

"The League will want to examine the body in their own labs. It would be preferable if they didn't have to have sloppy seconds, if you get my drift."

Ok, her choice of words maybe wasn't very politic, but she's beyond being careful right now. She just wants an understanding.

No cop likes it when bigger fish move in and take their case, but while he grimaces for a moment, he remains quiet, simply nodding.

"I have some paperwork you'll need to fill out," he says professionaly. "And, uhm, you'll have to arrange for your own transport."

She grins at Branden but it holds nothing of amusement in it.

"Let's save the paperwork and transport until after I see the scene. Might be some evidence they'd want as well."

"Yes ma'am," he says, walking out of the room ... and seeming somewhat releived to do so. "All right if I drive."

Hidden beneath the question is a "Dear God, please don't telport me or make me fly or something."

She casts one last look back to Ray's body, sighing softly then follows Branden.

"Sure" She thought about offering to fly him there, if only to see the look on his face between the actual flight and how close she would have had to hold him.
