One Shot, part II

The Captain is not happy, to say the least. She has one officer out indefinitely - Romy isn't even up for filling out the paperwork following shooting the Scarecrow, little surprise that, given the circumstances. So she's been put on leave under heavy guard. Maggie knows the dangers as well as anyone... Gotham's rogues aren't going to sit quietly after one of their own was shot.

And then Cris... refused to take any down time, despite his hand. He's been helping Renee through it, but having his gun hand in a cast for at least three weeks... is hardly safe to go out on the streets with, but he insisted.

But to top it all off, ever since the headline, the GCPD offices are looking like its Christmas. Romy has been getting cards, flowers, thank you letters, outright fan mail, and then the presents... she shoots a maniac, and suddenly she's everyone's hero. The gifts just keep arriving, and its taking up valuable time to screen them, since who knows what might be Joker gas or a bomb? Plus, its getting hard to find walking room.

"Would someone find somewhere to put all this junk!"

Vincent's halfway through his morning coffee and feeling unnaturally perky. Maybe it's got something to do with the fact that that lowlife Scarecrow freak is on the Endangered List. "Oh, I dunno, Cap. It's better than staring at the standard-issue State Department decor."

This does not seem to amuse her in the least, of course. "And its getting in the way." she says, shaking her head in frustration as she pushes stuff out of the way to usher a young couple and their little girl through on their way to testify.
"This is no way to run a police department."

"No kidding." comes the voice from the door, before Cris starts sorting through the stuff on the tables.
"At least the bomb squad has gone over this stuff... before we toss most of it. Romy definitely isn't going to want it... speaking of which... she was finally sleeping when we left. Still needs tranqs. I don't even want to know what she saw before she nailed that freak."

A pause. "He's still in critical?"

"Last I checked."

Renee has been unnaturally subdued since the events at the theater. She's kept to herself mostly and accepted in silence the ever present support of her partner. What did she see at the hands of Scarecrow? She has yet to share that experience. With anybody.

Cris, meanwhile, has been a rock. There to help out, or just provide a shoulder as needed.

Not that he's discussed word one of what he saw either.

"Good." he says simply, meaning it. He can't quite bring himself to say out loud that he hopes the freak is beyond saving... probably too much to hope for.

She looks sideways at him, taking in the expression on his face and the tone of his voice. Growing up she was taught that it was wrong to wish death upon someone. Anyone. No matter the circumstance. The teaching clings to her still.

Right this very moment though, she doesn't feel so charitable.

"Hope he fuckin' rots in hell," she mutters.

This is one of those areas where usually he'd agree. But he's wished the same on others here and there... spend long enough as a cop in Gotham, and its hard not to. And seeing the effect this has had on Romy and Renee... and to a degree, on him, he can't wish anything good on Crane.

"Yeah." he finally adds, quietly.

She starts loading up her arms with boxes.

"They all here? I don't see the rainbow one."

"The rainbow one, which... that the one... a little bigger than a breadbox?"

The captain looks somewhere between displeased and starting to get worried. "We've been here the whole time, it was there a minute ago."

"It's not there now."

Cris checks under the table, around the area. "Fuck. Check security tapes, everything." he calls, moving quickly into action.

Of course, it doesn't take long to discover that the camera in question had a brief malfunction.

This, of course, brings on more cussing. No one seems to have seen anything either.
