Presenting ... The All-Star Squadron!

As the chatter dies down, Liberty Belle takes the podium. Even after a couple years of doing this, her breath always catches when she looks out at this assemblage.

"All right, everybody," she says, casting a glance absently at Johnny Quick. "Settle down. According to Black Canary and the JSA. we have a serious problem on our hands. Bulletman, a mystery man from Fawcett City, has been beaten to an inch of his life by Capt. Nazi, who seems to be active on U.S. soil. And to make matters worse, Zatarra's old enemy, The Wizard, stopped Capt. Nazi from finishing the job, and warned us that ... and I'm quoting here ... 'Hell is coming to America.'"

She looks around at their faces ... confusion, concern, uncertainty --- all of that, yes. But also determination, courage. Not a one of them is shaken by this news.

"So the question is," she says. "What do we do?"

"Or Dr. Fate. Or the Spectre. Mind, I've never really believed there's anything supernatural about any of them, but ... say, Where is Fate? The Spectre doesn't answer messages sometimes, but Fate usually makes an effort to show."

"Hey!" says the Atom,a s all Justice Batallion eyes turn toward him. "Don't look at me! I called him, but his phone just rang! Usually he just knows when he's supposed to show up!"

"Maybe he's already shown up somewhere else. Not here." She looks around. "Unless...."

Johnny Quick shrugs in his seat, with a cocky grin.

"Maybe he had a hot date?"

"If that were the case, he would need to reexamine his priorities."

"Thank you, Doctor Mid-Nite." The Black Canary crosses her arms and gives the speedster a perturbed look. "What if whatever's coming to America has distracted Dr. Fate, so Dr. Fate can't interfere?"

Johnny waggles his eyebrows back at the Canary, that grin staying put.

"Then we'd best do the interfering for him, wouldn't you say?"

"I hope you've got more than eyebrow maneuvers on your side," mutters the Blonde Bombshell.

"You can take that to the bank, my little chickadee."

Then he alternates eyebrow-raises at her.

"Canary," she corrects, grinning in spite of herself.

Libby casts Johnny a sideways glance. Not much, but those closest too her can spot her annoyance.

They're not an item, but the heat between the two of them gets palpable at times.

"Well, it can't hurt if some of us go and check up on him. Fate's tower's invisible, but maybe someone like Green Lantern can find it. If the Wizard's spooked, it probably means something magical's up."

Unlike Terrific, she believes in magic. She's powered by the spirit of Liberty itself, after all.

Johnny catches that glance, and makes a little kiss with his lips toward her.

Something to do. Correction: Something for someone else to do.

The Canary flexed her hands. If only there were someone I could fight! I'd even be willing to face Captain Goose-stepper again!

Libby doesn't deign to return Johnny's glance, and if anything, turns her eyes away from him too quickly. She won't let him get her goat.

"It's definitely a plan, at least until we ..."

She stops. A strange chill has entered the room.
