*Greta is telling Ma Hunkel about the "adventure" the weekend before*
It was awful, Ma! This lady, Isabel Bristol, got us all out to her house like it was some kind of publicity thing, but she just had her house all booby trapped. She was crazy!

*pauses a moment to take a bite of her sandwich*

The house was really creepy anyway, even without all the traps. And she had this creepy butler that was supposed to show us around. *snorts* Or something. He separated us all into different rooms, and that’s when things got bad. Robin got gassed but he had a little gas mask thingy in his belt. He does stuff like that. Imp-- whoops, Kid Flash, that one’s going to get me for a while -- anyway, he got dumped into a room in the basement and she tried to drown him in molasses. Can you believe that? Molasses!

Apparently she had some kind of problem with anyone who’s a hero with powers. She said that she had no problem with me, or Robin, or Speedy, but she was trying to kill Kid Flash, and Superboy and Wonder Girl. This lady was seriously nuts!

*gets up to put her plate in the sink, then sits back down at the table*

I was in the library with Speedy. She’s Green Arrow’s sidekick. She’s got a pretty red outfit with a hooded cape. Hmm, I wonder what it is with the girl archers wearing red? Anyway. Brentwood, the creepy butler took Kon and Cassie off to another room, and she poisoned Kon! She had kryptonite dust. How scary is that? Then all these guns came out of the walls and she tried to shoot Cassie, but Cassie blocked some of the bullets and blow a hole in the wall with her lasso.

I couldn’t hear any of that though. Miss Bristol had piped gas into the library to knock me and Speedy out, but Kid Flash and Robin dragged us out of there and we all met up in the ballroom. I feel really stupid getting knocked out by gas like that. I should know how gas acts and I should have been able to get away or something. It sucks. *sigh*

So, Speedy and I were just waking up and Kon wasn’t too steady on his feet, and then she started throwing these knives at us through the walls. I mean, they were just being shot out of the walls! Then there were these little grenade things that exploded with a lot of shrapnel flying all over the place. I didn’t get hurt or anything because Robin shielded us both with his cape.

Robin and Kid Flash figured out that Miss Bristol was hiding up in the east tower. We made our way up there, and Robin subdued her while Kid Flash ran to get the state troopers. Things did go a lot better once the whole team was all together. Although a couple of times along the way I had to be protected by either Speedy or Robin.

*her shoulders slump*

I hate that. I hate that someone always had to be shielding me or covering me. I felt so helpless. Even when I was just a cloud of smoke I was more useful than that. All I did last weekend was get in the way.

*sighs*

I probably shouldn’t go out there with the Titans anymore. I wouldn’t want to get in the way.

*looks up at the clock on the wall*

Time to get back to work, I guess. At least I can be useful here.

Isabel Bristol's face is twisted in anger as she watches her bank of monitor screens. One by one, the younger Titans have slipped the traps she prepared for them. Refusing to give in to failure, she presses the controls that lock the doors and windows of Bristol House.

I see. The freaks have made turncoats of you. I would have saved you. More than just let you live--I would have given you the opportunity to shine in this wretched uncaring world. But you have rejected your own kind in favor of them. Let your fate lie with them, then.

Unaware of her actions, the younger Titans have managed to assemble in the ballroom.

Unaware of Kid Flash's predicament or Robin's incarceration, Speedy, Greta, Superboy, and Wonder Girl continue to follow Brentwood through Bristol House. The Titans are shown a formal dining room, the butler's pantry, the kitchen, and have now arrived in the library. Like many of the other rooms, the library is decorated in the ornate Victorian style adopted by the wealthy Americans of the period. The floor is oak parquetry, darkened with age. Oriental rugs provide color and warmth. Heavy faded-cherry curtains obscure the windows. Tall bookcases stand along the walls, filled with thick books bound in leather and cloth. Along one wall is a museum-quality display case holding a number of pulp magazines dating from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The covers make it clear that these issues celebrate the exploits of "Lightning Fist" Bristol.

The younger Titans should be here soon. I had never thought they would be asked to help publicize a museum, though it is true this Bristol House was once the home of a hero, generations ago when this state was still a territory. It's no different from us helping out at a children's hospital, and it is kind of Miss Bristol to acknowledge the younger Titans as the generation accepting the torch passed on by another.

I hope they will arrive before much longer. Luum will need to be fed again shortly, and the younger Titans blush so to see me nurse.

Dear Teen Titans,

While I do understand your duties are vital, I really am very disappointed that you haven't been able to fulfill my little request. Your presence truly will make such a difference as to the success of my little plans for my family home, so much so that I have delayed the opening in anticipation of your visit.

I do hope you will finally be able to travel to Bristol House this weekend. I am positively aflutter with anticipation.

Sincerely,

Miss Isabel Bristol

Dear Teen Titans:

I do hope you will forgive this somewhat impersonal introduction, but I didn't want to infringe upon your privacy on your charming little island. My name is Isabel Bristol, and I am the granddaughter of Angus "Lighting Fist" Bristol, who you may have heard of in your history classes. I have recently been quite successful in restoring our family's mansion near Berryessa Peak, and plan on opening it as a museum dedicated to my grandfather and the Old California he knew so well.

Since you are such noted heroes yourself, I am hoping you will come to my assistance in making the museum a success. I would simply love it if you would agree to spend the weekend in Bristol House as part of a charity event marking the conclusion of the restoration and the opening of the House to the public. Your youth and courage make you perfect candidates to draw the attention of California's youth, who would do well to follow the examples of true heroes.

It is my fondest wish that you be able to do me this favor. I await your reply most eagerly.

Sincerely,

Miss Isabel Bristol
