"All units on the ready. Hold your positioning until further notice. And to all of you, I send my deepest appreciations. We're doing work of the Gods now, and as I promised before, you'll be legendary..."

Luthor sends his communique through Calculator, and relays through his three location captains. With that, he's back to his windows, and watching the remnants of the blown universe filter through. Soon, it will be enough.

Thomas Blake sits back at a desk , his hands entwined momentarily before taking a deep breath.   His "recruiting call" hasn't gone as well as planned.

"Okay...seriously now.  I can...take a joke.  I like a laugh as good as the next man, but REALLY?  Did someone send you here as a gag or something?"

He uncurls his fingers, drumming them on the front wood.  "First off, I'm hoping your not wearing a wire.  Second, SERIOUSLY?"

She's at the head of the table this time. No Luthor, unless he decides to crawl out of the woodwork and show up for their meeting.

Considering that he hasn't shown up for ANYTHING, Grace isn't holding her breath.

And the boys had better show up this time.

After leaving the LexCorp building with Grace, and agreeing to meet up with the other members of Infinity Inc at the designated area of downtown, Kara decided that she'd have another quick fly around, to see if she recognised any familiar structures. It was strange. Metropolis was clearly changed, and she was trying to work out in what way when she realised that a lot of the things were just modifications on old designs. The cars were quicker and quieter, the building interiors plusher and the computers more advanced. Even the little things like the suits men and women were wearing; the collars were smaller, the trousers tighter, shoulderpads practically non-existant. All fascinating, in their own way. What could cause such tiny changes in this world?

Flying to downtown as agreed, she got to work almost immediately. The being known as Chemo wasn't completely foreign to her; she remembered one from her world, which was equally as destructive. She surveyed the devastation it had caused, and with a resolute look, began to use both her superspeed, strength, and invulnerability to clear away a lot of the toxic soup that remained in the area. She shored up buildings, and in the blink of an eye was disintegrating ruined furniture and half-melted cars with her heat vision. All thisdetritus was no use to anyone who might want to live here once the cleaning had been completed.

Some of the toxic waste made even her feel ill. As Infinity Inc hadn't shown up yet, she would let them deal with that, providing they had the equipment to do so. But within half an hour, a great deal of the outward damage in downtown was already healed. As Infinity Inc started to roll in, Supergirl flew down to the middle of the road to greet them with a smile. "I've done some of the work, but this'll need to be a team effort. I should probably introduce myself, as the only one I've met is Grace. My name is Supergirl, and I'm really hoping that together we can clean up the destruction that seems to have hit Metropolis."

His thoughts are jumbled - the tangle of streets and the urban decay seem at once familiar and forbidding. The tall skyscrapers of the downtown area remind him of home, but he also feels the need to stay out of sight - until he can sort out the conflicting impulses in his mind.

Val's path has led him to Suicide Slum - no better place to hide in Metropolis. Even though his black and orange outfit is unusual, the people here seem more content to mind their own business - and so he has sought refuge in an alley, sitting on the ground next to a dumpster as he tries to focus.

Aboard the Watchtower, a meeting begins - with teleconference presence for the Teen Titans, the Titans West, the Justice Society and more. Unaffiliated heroes have been invited to the Watchtower to listen in, as well.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, thank you for your attention."

Brainiac Five addresses the superhero community, calm and collected as he speaks to the most powerful entities on the planet.

"Some of you may already be aware of the growing problems. The forces of magic are reportedly in chaos; strange events have been occurring all over the globe, and I have detected an unusual degree of temporal flux."

The briefing continues.. )

"I will now open the floor to questions."

Chemo switches on. "GG56I." It's been a while since it was last active. After the chess match with Calculator, it was as if the increased sentience had put Noah off releasing the walking vat again. But this time, it's in full-sized mode, as the Society require a distraction from the rather overt assassination earlier today, and as far as distractions go, the giant, green, glowing container, is a massive one. "88L." Stepping from a hangar, long disused, in an area that during the war was an airstrip, but is now a part of the burgeoning downtown, Chemo stands to full height, towering above the houses and shops.

People start screaming. People start running. It has orders. There's a prison down the road, and Calculator has ordered Chemo to dissolve one wall, and cause some chaos. Chemo begins to stride down the street, smashing cars, and smashing anyone unfortunate enough to be in the way. It's like King Kong, but toxic, and totally emotionless. When Chemo gets to the end of the street, it turns. That way. But then it stops. It turns another way. That way. It stops again.

"Prison secondary. Metropolis primary. New directive. Break Superman." Chemo starts going back the way it came, and straight towards the busy area of downtown.

Metropolis has always had its share of heroes. From Superman to the Newsboy Legion, the Guardian, the city could consider itself well-protected.

As of recently, more were even added to the melting pot. Infinity Incorporated, Lexcorp's publicly sponsored entity have taken up residence in the city. Between handling operations that may take them from city limits, the team members are also expected to handle minor problems internally.

This, would be one of them.

"Let me get this straight. You can control emotions using your lights. Aaaand, when you flash a certain one, you can cause fear, or anger, or sadness."

The spoken to subject just nods.

"So, instead of, I don't know, using it to help people...you wanted to rob a food court. I say again. A.FOOD.COURT."

Another nod. This one more nervous.

The speaker, Infinity Inc's Miracleman regards this for a few moments, keeping the captured Doctor Spectro at arm's length and high above the Siegel Centre mall. Miracleman has his hands around the back of Spectro's neck, and starts to do some calculations. "You know...I'm not going to drop you. I just wanted to get us up here to get some thinking time, and wonder about how long you'd be going away for IF you pulled it off."

Spectro grabs hold of his arm, trying to do something, anything to keep from going airborne to the crowded streets below.

"Okay, Doc...lets get you out of here. I don't even feel like doing the paperwork to have you booked. So if you promise that you'll stop trying to steal things, and primarily never wear that costume again...you can get home in time to watch the game. Deal?"

Sleek leather chairs surround a conference table with a surface buffed to gleaming. Windows look out over a spectacular view of Metropolis. It's quiet, with barely even the hum of air conditioning stirring the calm.

Until the doors are flung open, followed by Grace Choi striding confidently in. She swings one of the chairs around and sits down, propping booted feet on the tabletop.

"Wonder if the big guy'll show up in person this time."

The images of Infinity Inc's battle with Society members Dr. Phosphorus and Chemo are being played out over Metropolis airwaves constantly.

Lex Luthor, project founder is staying in wireless communication with the ground troops, helping out civilians, and containment teams to take care of the area. With a surprising amount of stress and work, Luthor gives an "eye in the sky" look to the situation.

"Come on, dammit...lives are at stake here! Contain Chemo, first and foremost...I don't want a drop of that thing getting out into my city!"
[identity profile] tx-instruments.livejournal.com
Killing two birds with one stone. There was little that Noah admired more than efficiency. Luthor had wanted a test for his little group of upstarts, and if Noah could gather a little information on this 'Miracleman' in the meantime - so much the better.

A custom-designed computer sits at his fingertips - a remote control system attached to one of the deadliest weapons in the world.

"Dr. Phosphorus, Faust is ready to transport you and your smokescreen. The Metropolis Marvel is dealing with a major volcanic eruption in the Pacific Rim. Are you ready to break the bank?"
[identity profile] tx-instruments.livejournal.com
In a very secure location, the Calculator ponders.

His computers continue to run their automated attacks against suspected subnetworks that may belong to the fabled Oracle, but for the first time in a long while, the Calculator's intellect is focused on something else. Luthor's band of reformed costumed criminals. And the bouncer, of course. She was definitely unlike the others.

The real mystery was the so-called 'Miracleman'. Some new project of Lex's, perhaps? He'd have to be a powerhouse if this group would be expected to step into situations ordinarily warranting the attention of the Justice League.

Only one conclusion can be drawn at the present time.

"I need more data."

With an unsatisfied frown on his face, Noah goes back to work on his latest project - the refurbished Thinker's cap, his gateway to heights of intelligence undreamt of by humankind.

As he stepped off the plane into a bright, sunny day in Metropolis, Bruce had to remind himself to smile. Fortunately, the reception awaiting him was much smaller than most of his previous visits. As far as the majority of the news outlets between Gotham and Metropolis were concerned, he was headed for a vacation in the Caribbean. He already had a press statement written up for release about how he lost his way and ended up somewhere less than tropical. They would laugh. He would smile and look properly abashed.

The best part about playing the part of a daft billionaire playboy was that no one really expected much from him.

Airport personnel loaded his luggage into the car that was waiting for him. Alfred held the door as Bruce slid into the back seat and then took his place behind the wheel. Once the bags were loaded, the car pulled away. As they exited the airport grounds and merged onto the busy streets of Metropolis, Bruce pulled a phone from his jacket pocket and dialed the number for Lexcorp.

It took a bit longer than he would have preferred to get to speak to Luthor's private secretary, but eventually he wheedled his way onto the other businessman's calendar. As a Lexcorp shareholder, Bruce was due the courtesy of a face to face meeting. Schedule permitting, of course. No, no… he wouldn't dream of taking up too much of Mr. Luthor's time. Heaven forbid.

Once the meeting was arranged, he sat back silently in his seat. They would go to the hotel, unpack, and wait. He hated playing by the rules, but sometimes it was necessary.

A 9:00 AM start time opened the day for Lexcorp's summit meeting. Its Chairman, Lex Luthor himself addressed the media, and the shareholders with its 2008-09 directive.

"And so, ladies and gentlemen, Lexcorp associates, and distinguished guests It is with extreme pleasure, and pride, that I give to you the 2008-09 company focus. "Infinite Initiative".

"What Lexcorp strives for, above all is the growth, and the acceleration of the human race. As a people, we have seen the future. Metropolis itself is a living testament to what things are to come. This city, amazes me. Its people amaze me. And to think that I'm a part of its golden age humbles me. I am proud to be a citizen once again.

And with that, I offer my gift...to the future, and the security of not only Metropolis, but this world in itself. )
